The Educational Pathway

The educational pathway of AMACA

Through the AMACA project, we develop multisensory activities for outreach and education within an innovative knowledge‑sharing framework. The process that carries astronomy from research centers and universities to the public and to schools unfolds as follows

Phase 1

Astronomy and science‑communication specialists mentor PhD candidates in Astronomy and Physics, guiding them in the creation of interactive, multisensory workshops.

Phase 2

These PhD candidates, in collaboration with the Italian Union of the Blind, then train high‑school students on both the workshop activities and the underlying astronomical concepts, as well as on how to communicate effectively with audiences, including people with sensory disabilities.

Phase 3

The high‑school students themselves run the workshops during the annual “The Universe in all senses” Astronomy Festival held in Castellaro Lagusello.

Phase 4

Upon completing the program, the high‑school students and their expert supervisors lead a training course for primary and secondary school teachers. This ensures that the workshops—and their inclusive, hands‑on approach—are integrated into regular science curricula.

This pathway has proven highly effective at communicating astronomy not only to people with visual impairments but also to all participants who find the interactive, multisensory format both engaging and educational.
